The Future
Radical architectural design, inspired engineering and new exhibitions will make Cutty Sark fit for 21st century audiences, placing the ship and surrounding area at the forefront of modern design when she reopens in 2011.
On completion of The Cutty Sark Conservation Project, a completely new experience will be on offer to all. Raising the ship 3m above her current position not only helps preserve her shape, but will also present visitors with a unique opportunity—the ability to walk under a three-masted sailing ship. Visitors will be able to see and appreciate the beautiful lines of her hull which enabled her to glide speedily through the water and which made her so successful.
During the day Cutty Sark will be a focus for learning, an exciting day out for the family, a revived and rejuvenated ship ready to welcome back old friends and impress new visitors.
At night the ship will take on a truly enchanted atmosphere, making it a unique venue for all manner of community events and functions. Corporate visitors will be able entertain their clients at an exciting new venue and London will have an impressive new location for hire for parties, wedding receptions and other events.
The Trust’s business plan will ensure that the vessel has a sustainable future, generating the funds to cover future maintenance needs. Cutty Sark has survived for nearly 140 years, braving storms, encountering icebergs, and overcoming the fire in 2007. Be a part of her future and come and visit in 2011!
